BETWEEN CONVERSATIONS / BOOKS
Some conversations become books.
Some ideas need more time, more space and considerably more pages.
These are books for coaches, leaders and people who work with people — practical enough to use, reflective enough to return to, and written for the messy reality of practice.

The Ultimate Coaching Handbook
Support for your coaching practice, no matter what level.
Coaching can be wonderfully simple. And extraordinarily complex.
The Ultimate Coaching Handbook is a practical companion for coaches who want something they can actually use — ideas, questions, frameworks and ways of thinking that support the work before, during and after the coaching conversation.
Not a single model to follow. Not a promise that there is one right way to coach. A resource to dip into, question, experiment with and make your own.

WHY I WRITE
Some questions don’t resolve neatly in a coaching conversation.
Writing gives me somewhere to stay with the questions that don’t resolve neatly in a coaching conversation.
What are we actually doing when we coach?
What does the coach bring into the room?
What happens when we stop reaching for another technique and start paying attention to ourselves?
Some of those questions have led somewhere else.

The Instrumental Coach
What if the most important instrument in coaching is the coach?
We spend a great deal of time learning how to coach.
Models. Questions. Competencies. Frameworks. Techniques.
The Instrumental Coach turns the attention somewhere else: towards the person using them.
The coach as instrument. Our presence, assumptions, emotions, uncertainty, ego, experience and relationship with ourselves — and how all of that enters the coaching relationship whether we intend it to or not.
This is a book about knowing the instrument, hearing the instrument and learning to play it more consciously.
Before coaching is something you do, it is something another person experiences.

BETWEEN THE BOOKS
Start with a thought.
The books are the longer conversations. Between them, I write shorter reflections on coaching, leadership, learning and what happens between people.
